Our Journey

Derby City Smokehouse was founded in 2010, originally titled Louisville Smokers BBQ, by the Crocker and Brizendine families. As passionate BBQ enthusiasts, they set out to bring authentic Texas-style smoked meats to Louisville and share their love of traditional barbecue with the local community.

Starting with a small smoker at 26th and Broadway, the family spent years perfecting their recipes through dedication, experimentation, and a commitment to quality. What began as a modest operation quickly gained attention for its rich flavors and authentic smoking techniques.

Originally launched as a Kentucky Derby weekend event, Derby City Smokehouse continued to grow year after year. Today, we are building on that success and looking forward to the next chapter of our story with plans for a dedicated eat-in facility, where guests can enjoy our signature smoked meats in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

We never compromise on our traditional smoking methods. Real hickory wood, 12-14 hour smoking times, and time-honored techniques ensure authentic flavor in every bite.

We source only the highest quality meats from local, ethical farms. Our rubs and sauces are made in-house from scratch using the finest spices and natural ingredients.

We believe in giving back to the Louisville community that has supported us. From local charity events to sourcing from nearby farms, we're committed to our hometown.

2010

The Beginning

Founded as a family-run BBQ stand at local farmers markets. Started with just one smoker and three family recipes.

2012

First Brick & Mortar

Opened our first restaurant on 18th Street with 10 tables. Quickly became a local favorite for authentic smoked meats.

2015

Award Recognition

Won "Best Ribs in Louisville" award for the first time. Began expansion of our smoking facilities to meet growing demand.

2018

Major Expansion

Expanded restaurant seating to 75 tables and added outdoor patio. Launched catering services for events across Louisville.

2020

Pandemic Adaptation

Successfully pivoted to takeout and delivery during challenging times. Strengthened community bonds through meal donations.

2023

Current Day

Serving over 50,000 happy customers annually. Multiple award winner and recognized as Louisville's premier smokehouse.
